Lore holds a Ph.D. in Ecology and taught in the Environmental Studies Department of Emory University for 10 years before starting her business, Lore Ruttan Illustration. During that time she received a certificate in botanical drawing from the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, as well as training from the nationally acclaimed Program in Natural Science Illustration at University of California, Santa Cruz. Her works have been exhibited at the Fernbank Museum of Natural History. Although Lore works in a traditional botanical style that focuses on detail, her painting have a contemporary sensibility. Through careful study, each piece becomes an homage to the found item and place.
